Frequently Asked Questions

Legacy Trek is a software-powered family history platform that helps you write memoirs, document ancestors, create obituaries, and guide kids through creative writing exercises. You answer questions about your life and family, and our software turns your answers into polished, book-quality narratives.

Not at all. Just share your memories in your own words — bullet points, sentence fragments, or full paragraphs all work. The software handles the storytelling and polished prose. You can always edit the result afterward.

That's exactly what the Virtual Family History Consultant is for. Click the Help button on any question and our research assistant will guide you step-by-step through finding information on FamilySearch.org — completely free. It even shows you visual guides for navigating the site.

You do. Your stories, memories, and documents are yours. We don't sell your data, use it for advertising, or train models on your personal content. See our Terms of Service for full details.

Yes. You can download your memoir as a formatted PDF in multiple paper sizes (Letter, Trade, or Hardcover). You can also generate a professional audiobook narration with your choice of voice.

Absolutely. Every memoir goes through a full-featured editor where you can change wording, rearrange content, adjust photos, change fonts, and regenerate individual sections. The software gives you a starting point — the final product is entirely in your hands.

No. Legacy Trek is an independent product. We recommend FamilySearch.org because it is the world's largest free genealogy platform, but we are not affiliated with FamilySearch or The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in any way.

Junior Trekker is a free creative writing experience for kids ages 6–17. It works like a guided journey: kids start by picking how they're feeling, then describe what happened (younger kids tap emoji cards that match their situation, while teens write in their own words). Next, they identify how they handled it, and reflect on whether it was a good choice or a learning moment. At the end, the software creates a personalized Story Scroll — a story written in first person, in their voice, about their real experience. It's designed to help young people learn to identify their emotions, express themselves, and build confidence in telling their own story.
