I came of age in the 1970s, in a small town where nobody had much and nobody minded. When the 1973 oil embargo hit and gas lines stretched around the block, Dad waited with everyone else, engine off to save what was in the tank. We were living through history — we just called it Tuesday.

“I don't know how to write very well, so I was nervous. But when I saw the finished story, I couldn't believe it — it reads like something you'd buy in a bookstore. Professional, detailed, and it's still my story. It even wove in historical facts about the time period I was talking about. Like when I mentioned growing up in the '70s, it included details about what was happening in the country back then that I'd completely forgotten about — it made my story feel bigger than just me. I even got stuck trying to remember things from my past (I'm getting older, after all), but there's a tool that actually helped me remember. And the fact that I can invite family to contribute?
